Advent Message from the Chair of the Board and Director of Education

Posted On Friday November 26, 2021

“For unto us a child is born.” (Isaiah 9:6)

As we enter the season of Advent, we allow time for silence, prayer and anticipation of the birth of our Saviour.

During these unprecedented times, we realize how special it is to participate in Advent activities in our schools and parishes. As a community of faith, our schools and classrooms will continue to offer opportunities to celebrate and reflect as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of Jesus. Students and staff will be encouraged to participate in activities such as charitable acts, virtual reflections, and classroom prayers as they prepare their heart for the birth of our Saviour.

We invite our Durham Catholic families to ignite the Advent spirit in their homes by setting aside some time each day or week to reflect on the season. Our Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee have created an Advent calendar with daily suggestions for activities you can complete together at home.

To our friends and partners who celebrate nondenominational traditions, may you find peace, love, and joy in your hearts this holiday season.

On behalf of the Durham Catholic District School Board, we want to extend thanks to all our students, families, staff members, clergy, parish communities and community partners for your cooperation and collaboration this past year. In a spirit of gratitude, we are thankful to our health care providers, public health nurses, health department staff and medical experts for their continued dedication throughout the pandemic.

We look forward to our continued journey together in the New Year. The opportunity to work in collaboration with all of our partners here at the Durham Catholic District School Board, in our community, and across the province is a blessing.

May the Birth of Jesus Christ illuminate your hearts this Christmas season!

Yours in Catholic Faith,
